Treat the nodule. Preserve your thyroid. A needle-based, image-guided procedure for suitable benign thyroid nodules, with no surgical incision, no neck scar and, in most cases, same-day discharge.
Thyroid nodules are abnormal growths or lumps within the thyroid, the small butterfly-shaped gland at the front of the neck. They are very common and are often found incidentally during imaging or routine check-ups.
Most are benign (non-cancerous) and silent at first. As they grow, they can cause visible swelling, discomfort or pressure symptoms, and in some cases affect thyroid hormone production.
For biopsy-proven benign nodules, surgery is no longer the only option. A detailed ultrasound-based evaluation can identify patients suitable for ablation.
Needle-based treatment with no visible mark on the neck.
Only the problem nodule is treated; healthy tissue is spared and thyroid function is preserved in most patients.
Usually performed without general anesthesia, with mild sedation in some cases.
Faster recovery and an early return to normal life in most cases.
Ablation may be advised when a nodule causes symptoms or cosmetic concerns that affect daily life or well-being.
Eligibility is confirmed only after a detailed imaging and clinical evaluation.
Under ultrasound guidance, a thin probe is placed in the nodule and controlled energy is delivered to ablate it. For fluid-filled (cystic) nodules, ethanol ablation may be used: the fluid is aspirated and a small amount of medical alcohol is instilled to treat the cyst lining and help prevent recurrence.
Ultrasound and clinical assessment to confirm the nodule is suitable.
Image-guided, needle-based treatment under local anesthesia, about 30–60 minutes.
Same-day discharge in most cases. Most return to normal activities in 1–2 days.
The treated nodule gradually shrinks over the following weeks to months.
Thyroid nodule ablation at Vikash IR Clinic is considered only after a thorough imaging-based evaluation confirms it is the right option. Dr. Vikash Chennur has trained and worked at leading institutions in India and internationally, bringing global best practices to advanced, minimally invasive, image-guided care.
A minimally invasive, image-guided procedure for benign thyroid nodules. Instead of removing the gland, it targets only the nodule, which then shrinks gradually over time.
It preserves the thyroid gland, avoids a visible neck scar, does not usually need general anesthesia and allows faster recovery. For suitable benign nodules it offers symptom relief without overtreatment.
When performed by an experienced Interventional Radiologist in appropriately selected patients, it has a strong safety profile and avoids many risks of open surgery.
No, it is not surgically removed. The treated tissue shrinks gradually over weeks to months, improving symptoms and appearance.
Most patients do not. For very large nodules or persistent symptoms, additional sessions or surgery may be considered.
In most cases thyroid function is preserved because only the nodule is treated and healthy tissue is spared.
It is generally well tolerated. Mild discomfort or pressure may be felt during or shortly after, usually managed with simple medication.
About 30–60 minutes under local anesthesia (± mild sedation). Most patients resume normal activities within 1–2 days.
Treated nodules usually continue to shrink and recurrence is uncommon after complete ablation. Very large nodules may need staged treatment.
